Dumb Format Wars: 4K Version

The next big battle in home technology formats is the 4K TV. It may not be the last, but according to the article (link below), it’s rapidly proving to be one of the most stupid.

  2. The problem, of course, is that Sony makes great sutff! The Betamax was a really good system, the one we used at school in the video production dept. VHS was okay, but not superior.

    If memory serves, I believe there was a similar battle over DVD when it first appeared, but the dust settle quickly. Some of the more esoteric DVD formats aren’t around any more. Sony can learn, it’s just that when the devices first come out, they are too eager to show of how well they do things.

  3. Yep, the HD-Dvd vs Blu-Ray, Sony made a huge gaff with Betamax (also there was presssure from various film companies that it was too close to the professional stand used) in keeping it soley for them selves and not licencing it out, which they did with Blu-Ray…
