My Android, What Big Text You Have!

Filed under: Main — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

Where are the huge tablets? Trust me, they’re coming! Tablets may be popular today in the 7- to 10-inch size range, but eventually I see huge tablets appearing on the market. That will be a great choice for people who have trouble seeing a tablet’s tiny text. Until then, you can adjust text size on your tablet to something more readable. It’s cinchy.

The other day I told my doctor that I can see small text just fine. He replied, “For now.” I thought he was being funny (and you think I’d know doctors better by now), but he wasn’t: Eventually human beings get to an advanced stage where the eyeballs don’t work as well as they once did.

On an Android phone or tablet, to help make minuscule text more readable, you need to employ the Font Size command. Here’s what to do:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Choose Display.
  3. Choose Font Size.
  4. Select something like Large or Huge to increase text size.

You’ll find five options for the font size, as shown here:

The settings you make affect most text on the phone or tablet, primarily the text you need to read. Some text, such as icon labels, seems not to change size. And, of course, any text that’s a graphic image doesn’t change its size.

Android devices also feature an Accessibility item, found in the Settings app. The variety of items shown there seems to be different from device to device, but you will find the Font Size setting. It’s a duplicate of the setting from the Display item in the Settings app.

Until those extra huge, aircraft carrier-sized tablets start appearing in a few years, setting the font size for your modestly proportioned tablet will have to do.
