The Internet TV Life, Part I

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

For too long those glass TVs have dominated my domicile!

I’m talking the old fashioned TVs, the ones with bulky CRT monitors. Sure, some of them are called “flat screen” because the glass monitor inside has a flat front. Pfft! Big deal. The 21st Century is dominated by Internet TV!

Of course, back when I moved into my home, some ten years ago, there was no digital television. So I purchased the standard TV sets: One for the bedroom, kitchen, and a teeny one for the office.

When the kids got into video games, I decided to bless them with one of those new-fangled (and über expensive) plasma or LCD monitors. I was even willing to shell out the thousands and thousands of dollars for a hefty 32-inch model. The problem? The stairs to my media room have a very sharp turn in them; there was no way to get a larger TV down there.

So suffer we did.

Then came Apple TV and other digital TV hookups. Providing you have the right kind of TV, you could plug those suckers in and enjoy things like Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and others right on your TV. I researched those things, but found that my antiquated, glass TV sets weren’t up to the task.

Frustrated, I was about to invest in an Internet-ready TV and just bolt it to a wall somewhere. But my sense of style and taste got in the way. So I took it upon myself to remodel my master bedroom in preparation for a super-huge, fully digital, Internet-ready, 21st Century television set.

The remodeling took longer than I thought, even though I’m basically only building a new cabinet into which I’ll put the fancy new TV. Anyway, the work is almost done; there is a wonderful place ready for an Internet-ready, LCD TV of huge proportions. There’s a cable hookup. There’s an Ethernet hookup. There’s a beer dispenser. It’s going to be grand.

Okay, I’m joking about the beer dispenser.

Sometime this weekend, I’ll be venturing out to the brick-and-mortars to pick up my new TV. Then I’ll be exploring the newest aspect of my digital life. Stay tuned for the results coming Monday.
