Well, I’m back

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

After a long election campaign (I won) followed by yet another “Do this in two weeks” book deadline, I’m finally able to return to blogging on a regular basis for my Wambooli web site.

I have some updates for the site, which are also pending. I’ll get to those in a few days.

In the meantime, I’m back.

While I was gone I missed the passing of Steve Jobs, who the world knows as the genius behind Apple Computer. Another passing was Dennis Richtie, who had more impact than Jobs but isn’t as widely recognized.

Mr. Richtie was the key developer behind the C programming language. From that language spawned the C++ language, and together those two languages are responsible for just about every major piece of software in computer history, including Windows, Unix, Linux, and more.

I consider C to be the Latin of computer programming languages. In fact, by knowing C, I’ve been able to pick up and learn a lot of other programming languages quickly. That’s because the C syntax is borrowed upon heavily by just about every other programming language you can think of.

Thank you again, Dennis Richtie.

And aren’t we glad that C took over the world? Otherwise we’d probably be suffering through the BASIC programming language. Or something worse, like Lisp or — dare I say it — Pascal?

Ick.

But no, Dr. Richtie was there for us. And the world is a better place because of it.

  2. I know how you feel, Gnome. My best friend from High School runs a foodie blog and he hasn’t updated it in a long time. I miss reading about the whacky things he creates.

I’ve got some stories and issues backed up for this blog, so the next few weeks should have lots of good stuff. Thanks for your comment!
