After nearly two decades of dominating the browser market, Internet Explorer is passing the 50 percent mark, on its way down. Firefox is holding steady. The big increase is coming from Google Chrome.

  1. It’s always good to have competition. IE was renowned for being very slow and cumbersome, I have to use IE 8 at work it does the job but I like using Firefox, one thing I do like about IE and Opera is the size of the actual text size and clarity when browsing using them. It is odd that Firefox text seems to be just smaller. If they boost the speed it might make people use it again. I think a lot of people are going for a less is more approach nowadays, like Chrome which has as little as possible on the screen like massive tool bars at the top. I hope they can get it to load up quickly as well. I still have a noticeable time lag loading up Firefox on my Windows 7 machine. I’m not sure why, maybe it’s just my computer.

  2. I’ve noticed the crummy text on Firefox as well, Chiefnoobie. On my screen, the lower case C and L often appear to be a lower case D when they appear together. I’m pretty sure that’s a browser-thing as it doesn’t look that way in IE.

IE has fallen quite a bit from when it dominated the market at 80%.

  3. Also now I think people are aware that other browsers are out there. For example with XP it already had IE 6 installed some people just left it like that for years with out updating it because either they couldn’t be bothered or didn’t know how to. Earlier this year Microsoft sent out the program giving users the option to select which browser you want if IE was your default browser. It was interesting at looking at all the different options, there were some browsers I’ve never heard of.
