Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

It’s called the Consumer Electronics Show or CES. It’s in Las Vegas. It’s big. I would love to be there. I’m glad I’m not.

Unbreakable Glass

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

It may not be exactly unbreakable, but it’s called Gorilla Glass, and it’s manufactured by Corning. It’s in the news because of the looming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that’s descending upon Las Vegas this week. It’s a big deal to me because of a story I heard a long, long time ago.

This Old Zip Disk

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

The label says 1997. It’s an Iomega Zip disk. Capacity: 100MB. Yep, back in 1997, that was really something, 67 times the capacity of a floppy disk and far cheaper than those outrageously expensive CD-R discs and the rare drives that swallowed them.

Time to Change Your Password

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

Security experts, and those who pretend to be security experts, recommend that you change your password often. How often? Well, often it seems like they want you to change your password every 90 seconds. When that’s not feasible, then changing your passwords at the start of each new year works.

Can Apple Keep Up?

Filed under: News — admin @ 6:13 pm

A good review and perspective from the Financial Times (below). I’m enthusiastic for the future Apple. The time to be worried is three years from now when the products are old and boring.

Is it possible for Apple products to get old and boring? Time will tell.

Verizon to Charge $2 for “Convenience Billing”

Filed under: News — admin @ 10:11 am

I’ll have to research this issue further: My cell phone bills are paid automatically online. If the Big V wants to charge me $2 for that service, then I can once again resort to having them send me the bill via snail mail. Given the size of my account, and the number of pages for each line, I don’t think that will save them any money. Still, it will be more convenient for me not having to pay $2/month for online billing.

Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

The Year in Review: 2011 Predictions

Filed under: Main — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

Boy, am I seriously not a psychic. That’s okay, because I believe all psychics are not psychic either. So I suppose that makes me a psychic, especially when it came to predicting technology events for the year 2011:
