Your Second, More Portable Smartphone

Filed under: News — admin @ 2:32 pm

The Ultimate Phone Accessory is here! And, of course, it’s another phone!

Why are you lugging around only one phone, when you can have a second, smaller phone that’s far easier to handle. That second phone — it’s just a phone! You need one of those, you know, so that you can be on Facebook, check your sports scores, and play Fruit Ninja while you’re on the phone. Makes sense.

Nexus 7 Dock Review

Filed under: News — admin @ 8:01 am

Finally! The Nexus 7 docking stand is available. I’m not sure whether it’s worth it at $40. And it’s not available through the Play Store, not yet at least.

Think You’re Walking Undetected Through The Mall?

Filed under: News — admin @ 1:50 pm

Think again!

Apparently retailers at shopping malls, and probably in those Big Box stores as well, are snooping out smartphones with their Wi-Fi routers. They’re logging the MAC addresses of those cell phones, and maybe even tracking your movements through the store.

Are you creeped out yet?

Declining PC Sales Worldwide

Filed under: News — admin @ 12:57 pm

More evidence that the world’s consumers are switching to tablets and smartphones to replace their aging computers: Global PC sales declined nearly 5 precent last quarter. Yikes!

In U.S., PC sales leaders are Hewlett-Packard followed by Dell. In third place, surprisingly, is Apple.

Hopefully next month shows some Nexus 7 accessories. The long-spoken-of docking stand is supposedly going to be widely available. Another interesting item is the Wireless Charging Orb. Read more about that gizmo by clicking the link below.

Apple Below 500

Filed under: News — admin @ 11:47 am

It finally happened! Apple sank below 500/share, as I predicted a while back on this blog. I’m not thrilled with it, being a long-term stockholder.

Short term, I think the stock will linger, but there’s too much value for it to go too low too long. Apple is a jittery stock, but the company proves itself again and again. My guess is that after some good quarters and some innovative product introductions, the stock will come roaring back.

Key word: innovative. We’ll see.

Holiday PC Sales Lag

Filed under: News — admin @ 8:24 am

For the first time in five years, PC sales were down over the holiday season. I blame the lackluster appeal of Windows 8. Apparently so does this article:

The Perils of “Gorilla Arm”

Filed under: News — admin @ 10:16 am

My friend David Pogue puts it succinctly: Windows 8 on a desktop isn’t going to take off.

The other problem was the tingling ache that came from extending my right arm to manipulate that screen for hours, an affliction that has earned the nickname of gorilla arm. Some experts say gorilla arm is what killed touch computing during its first wave in the early 1980s.

Trackpads Are Here

Filed under: News — Tags: — admin @ 10:24 am

If you want to use Windows 8 but don’t want to pay a zillion dollars for a multi-touch monitor, there is finally a solution. Trackpads have arrived!

Similar to the Apple Magicpad (or whatever they call it), you can get a multi-touch trackpad for your PC. It sits alongside the computer keyboard, just like a second mouse. Rather than lose all sensation in your arm by swiping a touchscreen monitor, you can swipe the trackpad. It’s handy!
