A Picture in Your Document

Shoving a picture into a word processing document isn’t anything new. Even the text-based word processors of the late 1980s could accomplish the feat, albeit rather crudely and not in a manner anyone called “delicious.”

Filed under: Main — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

Recently, Samsung announced a new, faster media card, one that you’ll probably see available on its mobile devices in the near future. The Universal Flash Storage, or UFS, standard provides for data access up to five times faster than the standard microSD card. That’s pretty dern fast.

The Day I Wanted to Compute Outside

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

It was a warm summer day. The sun was high in the sky. I was hot inside (no air conditioning), and the outside deck was so inviting. So rather than say in the dimly-lit apartment, I prepared for my first computer adventure outside. Ho-boy! It was going to be fun.

Get Windows 10 Nag Nag Nag

Filed under: Main — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

I believe I may have received the final Windows 10 upgrade warning. It was up on my Windows 7 PC screen this morning, shiny and bright. The question is, if I decline now, will it continue to bug me? Is the nightmare finally over?

Wamblog Update

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

This blog has been up for over 8 years now. Minus a few instances where I’ve taken a week or two off, it’s been really consistent. Posts have arrived three times a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. With over 1,600 posts on the blog, that’s a lot of material.

DOOM Again

Filed under: Main — admin @ 12:01 am

One of the first PC shoot-em-ups I remember playing was DOOM. If I recall, the first episode in the DOOM series was available free online. I downloaded it over my “high-speed” dialup modem and played. It was so cool . . . back in the mid-1990s.

Metered Connections

A metered connection is an option for limited access to a wireless network you pay to access or one that offers only a limited quantity of data. The reason you set such an option is to avoid a surcharge once your quote evaporates. The problem is that some devices automatically assume that the Wi-Fi connection is metered when it isn’t.

More Fill-In-The-Blanks for Word

One of my most popular YouTube videos explains how to create a fill-in-the-blanks item in Word. The technique demonstrates how to add a blank line to a document, but it really works best only when you’re printing a document. For adding a fill-in-the-blanks item in a document electronically, you need to use something called a Content Control.

Printing Pictures from your Android

Filed under: Main — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

Wait! You mean that you can actually print those images? I mean, everyone knows that a phone or tablet features a camera, but don’t you just hand the gizmo to someone else so that they can see your pictures? Printing! That’s so old school.
