Windows 10 Tiles to Drive You Mad

Windows 10 didn’t kill off the Windows 8 tile-based Start Screen. Instead, it plastered those tiles onto the right side of the Start menu. I assume most people ignore those tiles. I know that office IT professionals would like to get rid of the tiles. Here’s how.

Basic File Operations

Of all the tools and toys in the File Explorer window, the most commonly used are the file manipulation commands. These four basic file operations are Copy, Move, Rename, and Delete. As you might suspect, several methods are available for implementing these commands.

The Folder View

The name of the program that displays files and folders in Windows 10 is called File Explorer. It was once called Windows Explorer. That keeps with Microsoft’s tradition of using the same or similar names over and over; they just can’t use the word “Explorer” enough, I suppose.

Windows 10 File Folder Tools

Over the last few incarnations of Windows, the file folder has changed dramatically. Gone is the old toolbar, replaced by the Ribbon. It’s a concept borrowed from the 2007 revision of Microsoft Office, and the Ribbon interface works really well as long as it doesn’t freak you out.

Yet Another 2016 Prediction

Here’s another 2016 prediction, one that I should have thought of earlier, but it just occurred to me: Laptops will start coming with both GPS and mobile data network radios. The change makes sense, and it might already be happening.
